Privacy Policy

At Narrazen, your reading privacy is our core design principle. We explicitly separate your private reading activity from our commerce and licensing infrastructure.

1. Reading Data Stays Local

Narrazen does not send what you read or listen to to its servers. Speech synthesis occurs directly on your computer:

• Local processing only: Narrazen accesses webpage and selected text locally to synthesize speech and highlighting. That reading content is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to Narrazen's servers.
• On-device neural speech: Audio waveforms are generated by local neural voice models running on your machine.
• No browsing history: Narrazen does not log URLs, page titles, reading habits, or time spent reading specific pages.
• Local storage: Reading preferences (voice choice, playback speed, player position) and reading progress bookmarks are saved exclusively in your browser's local storage.

2. Identity and Customer Data

Narrazen uses your Google account signed into Google Chrome to authenticate your trial and purchases without creating a separate Narrazen password:

• Google Account Identifier: We store a stable, unique identifier (sub) provided by Google, your email address, and email verification status.
• Session Tokens: Upon authentication, Narrazen issues a short-lived (1-hour) session token stored temporarily in Chrome's session storage.

3. Free Trial Metering

For customers using the 30-minute cumulative free trial, minimal operational metering is synchronized with our backend:

• Audible playback seconds: We measure actual audible playback time using short server-issued leases (~15 seconds) to deduct from your 30-minute allowance.
• No reading content: Trial metering transmits only lease identifiers, timestamps, and elapsed audible seconds. It never transmits article text, selected text, speech audio, or webpage URLs.

4. Commerce and Licensing Data

When you purchase Narrazen Early Access or activate an installation:

• Payment Processing: Payments are processed securely through Stripe (Stripe, Inc.). Narrazen never handles, collects, or stores raw payment card numbers or bank credentials.
• Device Activations: When you activate Narrazen, your extension generates an installation UUID. We store an anonymous cryptographic hash of this UUID to enforce our 3-device installation policy. We do not collect hardware serials, MAC addresses, or device fingerprints.
• Entitlement Verification: Signed cryptographic Ed25519 tokens are verified locally by your browser extension without contacting our servers before playback. Periodic background refreshes verify that purchases remain in good standing.

5. Third-Party Analytics and Telemetry

Narrazen contains zero third-party advertising trackers, cross-site telemetry pixels, or behavioral analytics software.
